SAPA'S Carpark came alive last Sunday with positive vibrations at this year's installment of ORIGINS SOKAHCHELLA; a fete that features our Soca Princess Nailah Blackman granddaughter of the Late Great Ras Shorty I. The evening started with noted DJs and radio and television personalities keeping the crowd charged up until the Artistes started to hit the stage.

Meanwhile backstage, the OUR Radio family , 2 Jamettes and Island Girl Talk, were conducting live interviews and asking the Star-studded cast questions their fans are dying to know.

The first artiste to hit the stage was Choppi who delivered his 2023 hit "Blind" and the crowds favorite "Captain". The army of Artistes that followed definitely brought the heat but Olatunji, Viking Dingdong, Tempa, Teejay, Fatherphilis and Shal Marshall really made the crowd move and had them  singing along lustily to their hits.

Our Princess of Soca Nailah Blackman appeared on stage with her energetic dancers and opened her performance with her 2023 hit "Come Home", which was a performance for the books. The crowd gasped and cheered during here performance but went crazy the moment she held her left leg up perfectly and dropped into a split. The skilled dancers didn't miss a beat and even though the two male dancers  costumes started to malfunction, they still gave people what they needed. During her performance members of audience and my fellow media personnel couldn't stop talking about how stunning Nailah looked from head to toe. Our favorite look of the night however, was her entrance look with hair by, flawless, makeup by noted makeup  Artist Mekelia Miller and clothing/ styling by Sokahgalor.

Artist who collaborate with our Soca Princess also blessed the stage and performed their hits.

As always Nailah paid tribute to those icons who are no longer with us by singing one verse and chorus of their popular hits starting with the pulsating rhythm of the late Devon Matthew's  “Journey” and end with the late Black Stalin’s “Ah feel to party”.

Being the first fete to start our Carnival 2023 Celebrations here at KYD Magazine, we can truly say that ORIGINS SOKAHCHELLA really showed how diverse our culture and people are and also how it impacts those around us and brings us together.
